The Mission of the John J. McCarthy Observatory is to further science literacy, both for students and adults of the Western Connecticut region. A non-profit, all volunteer observatory providing science education to students and adults. We host monthly open "star parties" and school field trips.

Here are two Solar images taken with the observatory’s antique telescope in August. Note a very faint disturbance in the August 27th image marked Active Region 14204. This area would later send a solar flare towards Earth creating a mild auroral display. https://t.co/W1491XpWWL (tw)
