“Civilization” is co-curated by William Ewing and Holly Roussell. Together, they unite broad international experience and curatorial perspectives, bringing to life an exhibition that reveals how photography reflects and shapes the story of civilization itself. William A. Ewing is a curator, author, and former museum director who has specialized in photography since 1972. His exhibitions have appeared at leading museums worldwide, including MoMA New York; Centre Pompidou Paris; Serpentine and Hayward Galleries London; Kunsthaus Zürich; and many more. His books, The Body, The Face: The New Portraiture; Landmark: The Fields of Photography; Civilization: The Way We Live Now; and Flora Photographica, have been translated into thirteen languages. He is an Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and a recipient of the RPS Outstanding Service to Photography Award. Holly Roussell is a curator, museologist, and art historian specializing in photography and contemporary art from Asia based between Paris and Beijing. She previously served as coordinator of the Musée de l’Elysée’s worldwide travelling exhibitions program, as well as the Prix Elysée photography prize. She has been a curator at UCCA China since 2021 and also served as an artistic advisor leading to the opening of Fotografiska Shanghai. In 2022, she was the guest curator for the Curiosa section for emerging artists at Paris Photo. Roussell has organized more than 20 group and solo exhibitions around the world (Folkwang Museum; MUCEM; OCT-Loft Shenzhen; Shanghai Centre of Photography; MMCA: Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul, among other institutions). She regularly contributes as an author to exhibition catalogues and magazines on photography, Chinese art, museology and curating. 📸 Visitors at the Kunsthalle, exhibition view of “Civilization”, 2025 © Kunsthalle München / Stefan Heigl Co-produced by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (MMCA) and the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography (FEP) @stefanheigl @rongsiyu @williamalexanderewing #civilizationexhibition #contemporaryphotography #curatorialpractice #globalexhibition #kunsthallemünchen (fb)
