APOYO

APOYO, which translates to "support" in Spanish, also stands for "Allied People Offering Year-Round Outreach," is a nonprofit organization registered under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Its mission is to empower communities by providing vital resources, advocacy, education, and opportunities to build community, particularly focusing on supporting im/migrants and Latinx people in Central Washington.

History and Operations

APOYO has been active in Central Washington since the mid-1990s, initially establishing itself as a food pantry and clothing bank. The organization offers nutritious, culturally relevant food, addressing both material and cultural needs. Beyond nutritional support, APOYO advocates for civil and political rights for disempowered individuals, including immigrants.

Programs and Partnerships

APOYO is involved in a variety of programs and partnerships aimed at fostering community development and well-being. Key initiatives include:

• Health and Wellness: APOYO has helped establish and supports health-related projects like the Open Door free health care clinic. It collaborates with local health organizations to provide vaccination clinics and health screenings.
• Education and Youth Empowerment: The organization offers internships, mentorships, and job shadowing opportunities, especially through its Youth Empowerment Program. This program focuses on engaging, educating, and empowering Latinx youth to develop their leadership skills.
• Community Building: APOYO hosts cultural events and celebrations to promote community cohesion and understanding.
• Partnerships: APOYO partners with entities like the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA), Northwest Harvest, Kittitas County Health Network, and HopeSource to enhance its service delivery.

Community Outreach Center

APOYO is in the process of developing a Community Outreach Center, designed as a safe space where community members can work together to meet material and cultural needs. This project is part of its broader vision to build stronger, more connected communities.

Support Mechanisms

Support for APOYO's initiatives can be provided through volunteering, financial donations, food donations to its pantry, and seasonal clothing donations. The organization also benefits from corporate sponsorships, such as supporting recreational sports leagues. Donations are tax-deductible, as APOYO is a recognized charitable organization.
