In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating some of our incredible team members and what their heritage means to them. Liz Avalos, Connections Program Manager, shares: "As a proud Mexican American, my heritage shines through in everything I do—especially when I cook. In my culture, everyone is welcome at the table, and no one leaves hungry (in fact, you’ll probably go home with leftovers!). Our traditions are full of color, flavor, and strong family values. I grew up dancing ballet folklórico and carrying those vibrant roots into my everyday life. My heritage has also shaped how I serve others. In Mexican culture, you often hear phrases like “a tus órdenes” (at your service), “aquí para servirte” (here to serve you), and “con gusto” (with pleasure)—expressions that reflect how naturally we care for others. That spirit of service inspires me every day in my work with Well Connected Español, where I have the privilege of supporting our community of Spanish speakers.
