Here’s a field update for all of the other builder nerds out there: Out on the Hollow Tree Trail project in Big Basin, the first 4 bridges we built used prefabricated fiberglass abutments. The final two bridges we’re building are actually using what is remaining of the original concrete abutments from the bridges that burned in the CZU Fire (pretty cool “reuse” practice here ♻️). We’re epoxying rebar into the old abutment, building a form to surround it, and then pouring new concrete to make the abutments bigger and stronger. From there we’re using the same fiberglass stringers and redwood decking as all of the others.  📸 @theroombehindmyeyes #santacruztrails #trailbuilding (fb)

#tbt If you’ve been out to Cotoni-Coast Dairies, you might recognize this little feature on Tree (Huyya) Trail right before you hit the techy mudstone section. Well, this feature wasn’t really planned. During a post-storm scout back in January 2023, @cobowaboh came across a block in the trail where a chunk of land had ripped out and slid right onto the trail. It was a hell of a clean up, but we took the opportunity to use some of the material to create a little roll/drop feature.
