🇺🇸 Hispanic Heritage Month — Honoring Service Across Generations Nearly 1 in 5 active-duty service members today identify as Hispanic or Latino — a powerful reminder of how deep this tradition of service runs. From the Civil War to Afghanistan, Hispanic and Latino service members have shaped our nation’s story through courage, sacrifice, and leadership: ✨ Joseph H. De Castro — first Hispanic Medal of Honor recipient, for bravery at Gettysburg. ✨ Master Sgt. Roy Benavidez — Vietnam hero, Medal of Honor recipient who saved at least eight soldiers while gravely wounded. ✨ Admiral Horacio Rivero Jr. — the first Puerto Rican four-star admiral, serving in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. ✨ Marine Sgt. Alfredo González — awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his valor at Huế. ✨ Chayanm “CJ” Garcia — Bronze Star recipient, Afghanistan veteran, and today a litigator and mentor carrying forward resilience into civilian life. This legacy was powerfully recognized in 2014, when President Barack Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to Staff Sergeant Melvin Morris, Sgt. 1st Class Jose Rodela and Specialist Four Santiago J. Erevia for their heroism in Vietnam. The moment, captured in the photo we share here, reminds us how Hispanic service members’ sacrifices have shaped every era of our history. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15–Oct 15), we honor the heroes of the past, the leaders of today, and the communities whose service continues to strengthen our nation. 💙 To all Hispanic and Latino veterans and service members — thank you. #HispanicHeritageMonth #Veterans #ServiceAndSacrifice #VetsWhoCode (fb)
