We are very excited to introduce our first CTF applicant! Meet Adam! He is 20 years old and majoring in mathematics with an emphasis on statistics at Arizona State University. Read more about Adam’s story and how you can help below. . “I have struggled with my health for the past couple of years now. My medical journey would only start with the struggles of being jaundiced, uncontrollable head-to-toe itching, lots of hospital visits, and having complete uncertainty for my future. During one of those visits, I got diagnosed with an incurable disease called PSC, which is a complication in the liver’s bile ducts. This disease would continue to affect me until a transplant was available. . I was lucky enough to receive a new liver on April 3rd, curing me of a horrible lifelong disease. When they took out my liver, they surprisingly found that half of the organ was cancerous and wondered how it was even working. After my transplant the doctors informed me of having lymphoma and concluding this issue, they want to make sure there is no cancer in me going under the radar. I went through 4 rounds of chemotherapy and spent the next 4 months in the hospital or at home too sick to leave. . Over the continuous 4 months in the hospital, my health issues have taught me at a very early age, that persistence and mindset are the most valuable skills to unlock the keys to a happy, satisfying life. Reaching out and grabbing various philosophies, (Buddhism, stoicism, etc.) taught me that this life is a gift. Embrace the ‘bad’ so you can reflect on it later, which has made every moment that much more special. This second chance, if you will, has made my perspective more fruitful than most.” .
