The Savoy Automobile Museum is a world-class museum on over thirty acres in beautiful Cartersville, Georgia, just off I-75, between Chattanooga and Atlanta. The Savoy opened in December of 2021 and takes its name from a 1954 Plymouth Savoy, which was discovered half-buried on the museum site during construction. It is operated by Georgia Museums Inc., a nonprofit that also operates the Bartow History Museum, Booth Western Art Museum, and Tellus Science Museum, all within thirty minutes of each other. We stopped by last week to check out the museum, along with our Porsche-Diesel tractor that is on loan and display for their Harvest to Highway exhibit. Other exhibits currently running include Barn Finds, which runs through August 24th, Small Block Muscle going on til November 9th, and It’s a Duesy! exhibit featuring Duesenbergs from 1926-1935. Add this to the already amazing Savoy Collection, and there is plenty to see at this fantastic facility. The AMCM will have several more cars going up for display in the coming months, including our 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra, a 1966 Shelby GT350, a 1967 Shelby GT500, the 1983 Dodge Shelby Charger, a 1989 Dodge Shelby Dakota, and our 1999 Shelby Series One Roadster. Old Car City is one of the largest junkyards in America and is home to over 4,000 classic cars. It is located in White, Georgia, and AMCM's Andrew Mackey checked it out while on a trip to Bristol, Tennessee, to see the MLB Speedway Classic. The main point of Old Car City isn't a junkyard as much as an interesting place to visit and photograph. A handful of cars are for sale, but most have been sitting in place for fifty years or more. Some cars have been there so long that trees taller than telephone poles have grown up through the open engine bays. It is truly a unique sight to behold, and hard to see everything in one day. All kinds of vehicles are there, including foreign cars, trucks, school buses, vans, and more from the 30s to the 70s. Along with the vehicles are unique signs and art scattered throughout the property. The 34-acre property has been in the same family since 1931, and started operating as a general store and junkyard soon after. For those interested, it is well worth the visit, but we would recommend pants and closed-toed shoes. They are open Tuesday - Saturday from 9 am - 4 pm and are closed Sunday and Monday.
