It aims to set high standards for sportsmanship, teach youngsters both the skills and ethics of sport fishing, and support research and educational programs to ensure the future of recreational fishing.
Activities and Programs
- Community Outreach: The foundation organizes numerous events, including fishing trips for disadvantaged children and veterans. These trips not only offer recreational activities but also serve as therapeutic outings for those in need.
- Support for Veterans: The foundation has been taking veterans from local VA facilities on fishing trips, providing them with a form of recreational therapy. This program helps veterans enjoy camaraderie and offers a peaceful experience that aids in rehabilitation.
- Fishing Programs for Special Needs Children: The Louis Berke Trout Derby, held annually at Hansen Dam, is a notable event sponsored by the foundation, catering to special needs children.
Philanthropy and Grants

Welcome The Los Angeles Rod and Reel Club The Los Angeles Rod and Reel Club founded in 1950 is one of the oldest recreational fishing clubs in California. Our club motto Good sportsmanship is worth more than all of the fish in the ocean reflects our commitment to the resource and the community in which we live. Each year we take hundreds inner city special needs children and Veterans fishing. We introduce them to a resource literally at their doorstep but not often seen until the first time on our trips.
