Stories of Success - A Mother's Journey The day I was reunited with my kids was the best day ever. I will never forget it. I was in a tough situation. While in an abusive relationship I began coping with drugs. I didn't have the tools to deal with my issues or anyone close to me I could turn to and ultimately, my children were taken away from me. It was devastating, but I can look back at my experience and know that I did what I needed to do to get them back. Regardless of who your kids are placed with, you will always be their mom or their dad. That was my light at the end of the tunnel. In the beginning when one of my social workers said, “You don’t deserve your kids,” I made myself a silent promise. I said, let me show you. I birthed those kids and one day the judge will order them back to me, and they did. Even though it felt hopeless at times, I did the work.
