Thanks to Diane Berry and her husband for putting on THREE Barn-be-que's this summer in 3 different locations. Thanks to the volunteers who helped promote and execute all 3 of these events. Thanks to all of the incredible people who donated items to help execute these events. Thanks of course to the donors and supporters who came and bought food or donated just because. GUMMY (a.k.a. Gunther) has found the most perfect job and it is the sweetest story. Gunther has been with the rescue for a while. He's a good boy but we've never had any real interest from any adopters. Gunther has some physical challenges because of an old injury but he's able to have a good quality of life as a companion. Marie, his long time foster mom, has done a great job with him for well over a year now. We had a friend of the rescue contact us in late July. They had a pair of horses who were very bonded. One of those horses was needing to be scheduled for euthanasia. The remaining horse is 37 years old and they feared that he wouldn't handle the grief well. They wanted to know if we had a horse that would be a good friend. We were originally going to send a different horse, but had to switch up the plan kind of last minute. We asked Marie if she'd be ok with Gunther going to this new foster home and we'd send her someone else soon. Marie chatted with these folks about Gunther and everyone decided it was a good idea. Within about 48 hours, Gunther arrived to mend a broken heart. The little horse with the previous injury, who no one has seriously inquired to adopt, is graciously doing something so incredibly important and special....offering unconditional friendship to a buddy he just met. This picture moved me so deeply, seeing them so close already and seeing how truly amazing animals are when it comes to showing compassion. Thanks to everyone involved for making this happen. Gunther isn't officially "adopted" but he'll be fostered there for free as long as his new friend needs a friend. *for anyone who doesn't recognize Gunther (Gummy) he is the smaller bay fella in this photo.
