Over the summer, 6 youth got together to create a toolkit to put an end to hazing, harassment, and bullying in schools. This toolkit is meant to equip students with the knowledge and skill set to intervene as harm is occurring, and take steps to prevent future harm. It was created by youth and for youth. The toolkit has three sections: ☀Bystander Intervention - what you can do in the moment that harm is occurring. ☀Know Your Rights - what schools must do according to the law when a report is made of certain kinds of harm. ☀Student Advocacy - what you can do when harm is not properly dealt with by the HHB process. This fall the Vermont Agency of Education is re-writing their official Hazing, Harassment, and Bullying Policy, a key policy that is meant to support youth who experience harm. They have not provided student and family centered opportunities to give feedback. We know the current policy is not meeting our needs in responding to harm in schools. We are taking this need into our own hands. If you or youth you support have been impacted by harm in your schools, this meeting is meant for you.
