Hiking in areas like Blue Lakes, Grouse Ridge, and Kennedy Meadows are all permanently protected thanks to conservation easements and public ownership of these areas. The Stewardship Council invested in additional trails at Bucks Lake, Fall River Lake, Lake Spaulding, Hat Creek, and Manzanita Lake to increase recreational access in those areas. As one of the Beneficial Public Values we were charged with protecting, outdoor recreation was an imprortant consideration in future management of the land. The Maidu Summit Consortium is working to make Tásmam Koyóm (the Maidu name for a valley located west of Lake Almanor in Plumas County, California) into the first Tribal Cultural Park in California. This valley was an important Maidu population center within the traditional homeland of the Mountain Maidu for many generations. The Maidu people steward the land and the creatures that exist on the land and plan to host workshops to teach others Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and practices. MSC received the property along with 4 properties near Lake Almanor through the Land Conservation Commitment process.
