This Sunday, ACM student and Alloy Studies competition winner, Ezra Shuminas will have his composition "Time Flies So Fast" premiered at Constellation Chicago! In this unique event, pianist Shi-An Costello will share music from his ongoing work in prepared piano technologies, showcasing the surprising and fresh results of music for 'prepared piano' (the careful placement of screws, nuts, bolts, erasers, straws, pencil grips and more in between the strings of the piano). Costello will perform selections of the widely celebrated John Cage's Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano from 1948, and new works written for the same Cage setup by Joann Cho, Jonathon Kirk, Kevin Laskey, Robert Reinhart and Jeffrey Weeter. Also included are tributes to Bad Bunny and "The Brutalist" soundtrack (Daniel Blumberg), a selection from the Chopin Études Op. 10, and a world premiere by Alloy Studies competition winner, Ezra Shuminas. Joining the evening is guest artist, violinist Sarah Plum in "String Crossings", a special demonstration-performance of sound connections between prepared piano and prepared violin.
