Welcome, Dr. Monica Arney! We’re excited to welcome Dr. Monica Arney to the SPRI Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. A native of Grosse Ile, Michigan, Dr. Arney earned her undergraduate degree in Human Physiology with a specialization in Bioethics from Michigan State University, where she was a competitive rower, team captain, and NCAA National Championship competitor. She earned her medical degree from MSU’s College of Human Medicine before completing her orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia. During residency, Dr. Arney was named Orthopaedic Surgery Resident of the Year in 2022 and served as head team physician for the Monticello High School football team. This ACGME-accredited fellowship will provide Dr. Arney with advanced clinical and surgical training, opportunities for high-level sports coverage and the chance to contribute to innovative orthopaedic research. SPRI Chairman and Managing Partner of The Steadman Clinic, Dr. Marc J. Philippon, recently delivered a Grand Rounds lecture to new SPRI fellows, scholars and team members entitled “Evolution of Hip Arthroscopy Over the Last 30 Years.” In this session, Dr. Philippon shared the advancements in hip arthroscopy over the past 30 years, highlighting how surgical innovation, improved imaging and in-depth biomechanical understanding have transformed patient outcomes, particularly in elite athletes returning to sport. The lecture underscored SPRI’s significant contributions to peer-reviewed literature on hip preservation, as well as the integration of regenerative medicine approaches into treatment protocols.
