It is National Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, a week when we recognize the incredible impact direct support professionals (DSPs) have on the lives of the people with disabilities whom they support. Direct Support Professionals Week has been an official annual observance in the United States since 2008. The history of the recognition week stems from a growing awareness of the essential role these workers play in helping millions of Americans with disabilities live independently and participate in their communities.
