Now Hiring: Community & Events Coordinator (Part-Time) Location: East Dorset/Rupert, Vermont Hours: 20 hours/week About Us The Dorset Equine Rescue is a nonprofit equine rescue dedicated to giving neglected and at-risk horses a second chance. We rescue, rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome horses while providing lifelong sanctuary for those who cannot be adopted. Our mission is built on compassion, community, and care—for both our horses and the people who love them. Position Overview We’re looking for an outgoing, highly organized “people person” to join our small but mighty team as our Community & Events Coordinator. This role is perfect for someone who loves engaging with the public, thrives on event planning, and enjoys building community connections. You’ll coordinate events, support fundraising activities, engage volunteers, and help strengthen relationships with donors, businesses, and supporters—all while pitching in wherever needed to further our mission. Key Responsibilities • Plan and execute organizational events, including logistics, volunteer coordination, and on-site support during event days. • Serve as event emcee when needed (welcomes, thank-yous, announcements). • Organize and manage our annual online auctions, including securing items, overseeing storage, cataloging, and shipping of 80+ items. • Recruit, schedule, and lead volunteers for events. • Assist with fundraising and capital campaign activities, including event support and light administrative tracking. • Support community outreach by fostering relationships with local businesses, schools, and organizations for partnerships and sponsorships. • Provide general organizational support—answering calls/emails, welcoming visitors, running errands, and assisting the Executive Director with a variety of projects as needed. Qualifications • Outgoing, approachable, and confident interacting with donors, volunteers, and the public. • Highly organized with strong multitasking skills. • Strong computer skills: proficient with Microsoft Office/Google Suite, social media, and comfortable learning auction software. • Comfortable speaking to groups and representing the organization. • Event planning experience required; volunteer coordination experience preferred. • Capital campaign or fundraising experience preferred but not required • Light graphic design experience a plus • Basic horse knowledge a plus • Must live locally and have reliable transportation. • Able to lift up to 30 lbs and work occasional evenings/weekends for events. Our senior Standardbred, Prayer, has now been with us for just over seven months. When he first arrived, our veterinarian gave him a body condition score of only 2.5. At 16.2 hands tall, he weighed just 983 lbs and was sick, exhausted, and very weak. Today, Prayer is thriving and looking so much better! He is spending the summer in a loving foster home alongside Madison, another DER horse, and the two will return to the rescue this fall. Both are doing wonderfully and truly enjoying life.
