This spring, a lively and warmhearted group of 10 young women from Wales came to exchange culture with HFC kids, through a partnership with The URDD youth group. Welsh Gaelic is a minority language which was brought back into mainstream culture over the past 100 years. The group spent time at our mobile school project in Shantiniketan - in partnership with Suchana - which helps indigenous children who also a speak a minority language, Santal. A highlight of the visit was when one young woman played her 🎻 at the end of each day of arts, sports, cooking and English classes.  @urddgobaithcymru (fb)

Rainy season in Kolkata can be intense, with daily hard rains and water in the streets up to your knees or even thighs.  For families living in slum communities, or pavement dwellers, rainy season is a challenging time because standing water in the house makes it hard to study, cook food or even sleep, as well as attracting mosquitoes which can bring malaria and other health issues.  HFC Centers provide a dry and safe space to learn, eat nutritious food, and relax with friends, especially important this time of year.
