Observed over 8 days (Swetambara) or 10 days (Digambara), it includes fasting, prayer, and scriptural study. Many Jains follow a strict vegetarian diet, avoiding root vegetables to practice non-violence. Traditional foods include lentils, fruits, nuts, and simple grain-based meals.
