🏛️ Today, on the final Watchlist Wednesday, we are spotlighting the Rock Springs Civic Center, the newest addition to our list of endangered historic places in Wyoming. Originally constructed in 1925 as the Union Pacific Coal Company’s Old Timer Building, this structure has been a cornerstone of community life in Rock Springs for a century. In 1978, it was expanded to include recreational facilities, transforming it into the Rock Springs Civic Center, a hub for fitness, sports, and community events. Today, the Civic Center faces significant challenges. Structural and mechanical issues have raised concerns about its future, leading to discussions within the city council about potential closure. While some propose closing the historic 1925 portion for future reuse, others fear the loss of this community landmark.  Recognizing its historical and cultural significance, the Alliance for Historic Wyoming has added the Rock Springs Civic Center to its Watchlist of Endangered Places. This designation aims to raise awareness and rally community support to preserve this vital piece of Rock Springs’ heritage.
