Dr. Richard Thomas (Catawba Island Historical Society Board of Trustee and Chief Designer for the Catawba Island History Museum at Union Chapel) is presenting “A Short History of Local Pleasure Boating” on Monday, August 11 from 4-5pm at Ida Rupp Public Libraries (in Port Clinton). In this free lecture, Dr. Thomas will share a fast-paced and fun look at all things boating, from powerboats to sailboats, from Matthews to Lyman, from indigenous tribal canoes to modern rumrunners, and much more. Craig, Debbie, Jeff and Amy from our Board of Trustees had the ultimate Catawba Island pleasure of judging 28, yes 28!, home baked peach pies in a contest at Ørchard Farm Stand this morning. Congratulations to all the winners (#19 pictured here took first place 🥇) and entrants and a big thank to to the Ørchard Bar & Table family for asking us to taking on this monumental 🍑🥧 task! Our mission is to educate and inspire by collecting preserving and displaying artifacts from Catawba Islands rich history. Thanks to CIHS membership fees grants bequests and Township support the public may visit the museum at no charge.
