Any season is a good season to give, and we’re thrilled to share our ultimate guide to Food Drives! 📦🥫 Discover our list of recommended items and a few things to avoid to make the most significant impact with your donations this season. - ❌Take a look at why certain items on our list are not accepted.❌ -*Expired Food- Avoid giving expired items during food drive season because some could be unsafe for consumption. Please note that we do accept some items that are past certain dating guidelines, as they are deemed safe. Check out our blog to learn more about those guidelines. -Heavily dented cans are not accepted because the dent could compromise the seal and allow bacteria to grow, causing illness. -Opened products are not accepted because bacteria can grow on opened food and cause illness. -*Fresh Produce- While we love to receive fresh produce, it is not ideal in the food drive setting. Produce items can be squished in the barrels or go bad before they can be picked up. If you would like to donate produce you can drop it off Monday-Friday from 8 A.M. - 3 P.M. -Products in glass packaging are not accepted because they could be broken in transit or in the sorting process at the warehouse. -Homemade food or Repackaged foods are not accepted because there are no nutrition labels or allergen information. - We are committed to providing the people in our community with safe and nutritious food that they feel comfortable consuming. Last Wednesday, we were honored to be a part of the first-ever Planted and Plated event hosted by the Sioux City Farmers Market in collaboration with the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City🌿🍰 - Sending a huge thank you to Jake Hawkins from crumb.; Market Manager, Melissa Gritzmaker; and the Farmers' Market Board for their incredible work on this event. With over 100 community members in attendance, Planted and Plated had food sourced directly from the Farmer's Market vendors, and meals prepared by chefs from Main+Abbey. - We are incredibly thankful for the Siouxland community and their dedication to coming together to help those in need.
