Watch out for turtles on the road! ⚠️🐢🚗 Vehicle collisions are an unfortunate threat for many turtles in our urban environments. Even if a turtle gets hit by a car, it doesn’t always spell certain doom. Their shells can heal from fractures. We’ve had a number of patients brought in recently to the DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center for care. Sometimes a turtle may be gravid (full of eggs) and we’re able to extract the eggs from the injured mother. The common snapping turtles shown below are an example of this. While their mother ultimately perished, we were able to save the eggs and let her genetic lineage live on through her offspring. 💚🐢 Remember to drive safely and watch for turtles! #coexistwithwildlife #turtlelove #turtles (fb)
