For many women, labor can bring about feelings of nervousness, stress and fear. This can be especially true if they have anxiety, a history of a traumatic birth, or if they are expected to have a long induction. That is why Elise Carney, RN, and the dedicated nurses of the Labor and Delivery department at Logan Health Medical Center created their own Labor of Love cart. The elements on the cart were thoughtfully curated by her team to help foster a more positive, calming environment. This, in turn, helps women gain a greater sense of control over their labor experience. “An example from our menu is our selection of ‘environmental enhancers’ to help set the mood in our labor rooms,” Elise explained. “These include options like special lighting, birth affirmation cards and a wireless speaker for patients to play music of their choice.
