2025 Vision Trip Recap: KINNAPA My biggest takeaway from my first vision trip with KINNAPA, our partners in Tanzania, was how incredibly passionate they are. Their love and dedication to their people is present in everything they do. They interact with the community members as if they are family, and lifelong friends. Mama Paulina truly goes the extra mile to uncover the truth behind life transformations via clean water projects. She is all heart and her ability to connect is critical in building the trust needed to successfully mobilize these rural communities for change. Adopting new behaviors via WASH training, water committee development and maintenance fund procedures can be extremely challenging for our partners in every country we serve. I discovered the unique approach each partner takes to gain the trust of the communities, and KINNAPA is no different. Their unique mobilization technique is love and connection, and you can feel it! The community members flock to them, greet them with dance and smiles, share their deepest struggles and challenges, and are welcomed by KINNAPA with solutions, kindness and love. I am so grateful for the field team, especially Mama Paulina for all her passion, heart, and positive energy. To witness someone fully diving into what they were put on this planet to do is beyond words. - Jamie Morris More on KINAPPA: KINNAPA Development Program is a community based, non-profit making, Non-Government Organization (It was set up in the early 1990s by six villages to deal with land encroachment issues facing pastoralists and peasants in the district of Kiteto. It was officially registered on 31st January 1992 See attached, KINNAPA constitution and Certificate of registration). The name KINNAPA is an abbreviation of the names of those founding six villages, which are Kibaya, Kimana, Njoro, Ndaleta, Namelock and Partimbo. In Maa, the Maasai language, the word means, “we help each other”. Its success was based on people’s solidarity to protect their land rights in order to improve their standards of living. The founding villages worked together for Village Title Deeds and when they succeeded to obtain them, it was decided to form a Community Based Organization that would continue to facilitate their development issues. Thus, KINNAPA was founded. The Program has expanded its activities to the neighboring District of Simanjiro after the Annual General Meeting's resolution. Mission Statement: To improve the lives of pastoralists, hunter gatherers and small- scale farmers through provision of education, water, and health services, support to livestock and agricultural production, gender and HIV awareness, wise use of land and other natural resources guided and ensuring participation, accountability, good governance and transparency. Vision: Quality standard of living for pastoralists, small-scale farmers and hunter-gatherers in Tanzania Mainland. Mama Paulina is one of the few Maasai women who have had the unusual opportunity to attend school and continue her studies at university. She is the mother of five children and several grandkids. She spent almost 20 years at KINNAPA working on community mobilization, sensitization, and project coordination. She is currently the acting director of KINNAPA as well as the soft-skills trainer for the W2T-funded WASH project. Her commitment to her community and accomplishments are an inspiration to many. With her broad knowledge and steadfast passion, Mama Paulina is ready to make a huge difference in the lives of people around her, empowering future generations to pursue their own educational goals. #CleanWater #Tanzania #Love #Connection (fb)
UWP water project engineering and design are clearly serving a dual purpose. Not only supporting clean water access to rural communities, but also supporting local food security through innovative designs. We are so grateful for their mindful water management and creative irrigation solutions! UWP is leading the way in their mobilization process and latrine upgrade systems, ensuring communities not only have clean water, but also develop essential behavioral changes. These systems support strong sanitation and hygiene practices, as well as sustainability of the water projects. In addition, UWP has adopted a collaborative latrine upgrade processes. Once communities have had access to clean water for a year and are ready for the next step, UWP connects them with local masonry entrepreneurs to employ latrine upgrades, such as: washable floors and enhanced privacy components. UWP continually stewards beneficiaries toward growth and development, executing a structured monitoring system to ensure a strong return on project investment. This system supports project beneficiaries throughout their clean water access journey in an effort to promote project longevity and community empowerment. Special thank you to Ruthie, Joseph, and David for joining us in the field each day, and educating us on their unique mobilization processes. (fb)
