At today’s South Bend Rotary meeting, President Tina Patton led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-Way Test before we welcomed several guests and celebrated the birthdays of many of our members. Our program featured an impactful presentation on the McKinney-Vento “Families in Transition” program from Sarah Nowicki with the South Bend Community School Corporation. Sarah shared how this important initiative helps ensure that children and youth experiencing housing instability have equal access to education. Through local partnerships with Hope Ministries, Faith Mission, YWCA, Sylvan Learning, and nearby school districts, the program provides transportation, tutoring, and essential supplies to families in need. Last year, 80 families achieved permanent housing thanks to this work and the community’s support. Members also heard updates about our upcoming blood drive (seven spots remain), the ongoing membership survey, and the Thanksgiving Basket Drive, which aims to serve 150 families this season. Anne Feferman led a lively Sergeant Report celebrating community milestones, and we closed with a raffle that reached $2,420. No winner yet!! We spotted some dedicated Rotarians getting an economic update with the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce this morning. Representatives from AWS joined us to share what they are working on and showed genuine community support and listening ears regarding some of the challenges created by local traffic patterns. They encouraged everyone to keep speaking up about anything that positively or negatively impacts our neighborhoods. The Chamber shared encouraging updates about growth, employment trends, and key regional statistics. Their presentation was clear, efficient, and full of optimism about what lies ahead for our community. It was a great morning of connection, collaboration, and insight into the progress happening across our region.
