CANCER AID RESOURCE & EDUCATION, INC., also known as CARE, is a volunteer-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to cancer patients. The organization was founded in 2013 with the mission of addressing the needs of local cancer patients in the community.
History and Purpose
CARE was established to address the lack of local support for cancer patients in Doña Ana County, New Mexico. The founder's personal experience with cancer within their family motivated the creation of the organization. Its primary objective is to alleviate the financial burdens that often accompany a cancer diagnosis, allowing patients to focus on treatment and recovery.
Services and Programs
CARE offers financial assistance to eligible patients for non-medical needs and basic living expenses. This support helps reduce the financial toxicity associated with cancer treatment, allowing patients to concentrate on their health and well-being. Leadership

Jeff Steinborn's SB 146 is a major start in improving the atrocity I have personally witnessed in cancer patients needing to access cancer treatment at Memorial Medical Center. The crisis isn’t just cancer, either. Memorial Medical Center is the only hospital that provides both medical oncologists and radiation oncologists and Memorial Medical Center has the ONLY radiation center in Dona Ana County. Thank you for recognizing the corporate greed. This is the reason Dona Ana County has this crisis. The lease of our hospital by Dona Ana County and City of Las Cruces to MMC operators included access to care, regardless of ability to pay -- as it was when it was a public hospital operation. (fb)

It's an important subject. Health care can be very expensive. Without health insurance, receiving treatment for a catastrophic health crisis may be very challenging or impossible in Dona Ana County.
