An estimated 42% of American adults are currently living with obesity and some studies estimate that more than half of Americans will be living with obesity by 2030. Obesity is a chronic health issue—not a lifestyle choice. Yet, millions of older Americans are denied coverage for treatment that could improve their health and reduce the risks of obesity-related disease. The demand for Medicare to cover FDA-approved anti-obesity medications is clear: 📊Nearly 60% of older adults with obesity are interested in obesity treatments. 📊Over 3/4s of seniors believe Medicare should cover them. 📊Those with lower incomes, disabilities, or poor health are more likely to want access but are less likely to afford it. With obesity rates continuing to rise at alarming rates, it’s time for our policies to cover obesity treatment just like any other chronic condition.
