Shaunda Richardson-Snell Appointed President of Mott Community College The Mott Community College Board of Trustees voted at a Special Meeting Monday to extend a contract for the position of Mott Community College President to Shaunda Richardson-Snell, which she accepted. “The Board of Trustees is looking at the tasks of the community college president from a new perspective. We need a proven and innovative leader who can navigate the challenges facing higher education and successfully adjust to today’s rapidly changing environment,” says Mott Community College Board Chairman Jeffrey Swanson. “Ms. Richardson-Snell, who was born and raised in Flint and Genesee County, is a passionate advocate of Mott Community College and its students. She has proven during her interim presidency, and across her entire career, that she is a highly capable and compassionate leader who can confidently lead organizations through evolving environments. Her First 180 Days report to the MCC Board of Trustees on March 24, 2025 is clear evidence of her commitment to put our students first, provide stellar leadership and skillfully guide MCC’s complex structure.” In addition, Mott Community College’s Vice Chairperson Wendy Wolcott adds, “The role of the college president has transformed to include a range of significant, resource-development duties. We need a shift to become adaptable, resilient and results driven – and most importantly, make sound decisions that benefit all of our students. I have already seen those results in Ms. Richardson-Snell’s short tenure and that is why she received my vote.” Chairman Swanson also praised a few top achievements under Ms. Richardson-Snell’s leadership in a very short timeframe: • Introduced the creation of an “Extraordinary Student Experience”, aligning the institution around delivering top-line convenience, world-class service, improved student success and seamless job placements • Established the vision and supported the Student Success Services Division’s project to streamline Mott’s enrollment process, decreasing it from 14 days to 5 hours • Executed an articulation transfer agreement with Adrian College for six degree programs through the dedicated efforts of the Academic Division • Identified and implemented administrative operational efficiencies and strategic realignments to realize annual operating expense savings of over half a million dollars being redeployed to better serve student needs Ms. Richardson-Snell responded to the Board’s decision, “I am honored and truly humbled by the three majority votes by two separate, duly-elected Boards of Trustees over the course of the past seven months to be selected as the President of Mott Community College. I’m excited to be home and contributing to the growth and development of our students and our community. While much has been accomplished at MCC in recent months, there’s more to do. We will remain focused on exceeding student expectations while supporting them along their educational journey and ushering them on to living-wage paying jobs or four-year degree programs.
