Tensions in the Middle East have escalated dramatically due to the military activity between Iran and Israel — and of course, emotions are running high in the United States and here in Arizona as well. Our hearts are with those injured and all affected by this terrifying assault. The JCRC of Greater Phoenix is in close contact with our local and federal law enforcement partners. At this time, there are no known threats to our Jewish community in Arizona. That said, we urge all community members—especially those managing synagogues, schools, and Jewish institutions—to remain vigilant and exercise additional caution this weekend. If you see suspicious activity, please call 911 immediately. Once safe, please also notify us. This is a moment to come together in prayer, unity, and strength. We are keeping Israel in our thoughts and calling for peace and protection for all innocent civilians. Stay safe. Stay connected. (fb)
This morning marked a powerful milestone for our community as we witnessed the groundbreaking of the Hilton Holocaust Education Center at the Arizona Jewish Historical Society It was so meaningful to see our Survivors in hard hats initiate the digging at the event which was so well attended. We were honored to join Governor Katie Hobbs, Mayor Kate Gallego, AZ Rep. Alma Hernandez, and many more elected officials and community leaders who came together in support of Holocaust education and remembrance. Many acknowledged Arizona’s Holocaust Education Bill (HB 2241)—legislation that the JCRC was proud to help facilitate in 2021, ensuring all Arizona students learn about the Holocaust and other genocides at least twice between 7th and 12th grades. This museum will allow future generations to understand the full scope of the Holocaust so that the memory of those tragically murdered will never be forgotten. This significant event was also the first public appearance of JCRC’s new Executive Director, Chen Shterenbach who just moved to Phoenix. (fb)
