Help Selva Cafe "go solar"! Since its opening, Selva Cafe has provided our older youths in Honduras an opportunity to develop professional skills after graduating from high school. It has also hosted numberous community celebrations and events for visiting groups. Unfortunately, Santa Barbara's sketchy electricity means the cafe (and other businesses in the area) are often forced to close unexpectedly when the power goes out. The cafe is also limited to menu items that use shelf-stable ingredients - no eggs, butter, or milk. Our vision is to install two energy-efficient chest freezers and a backup battery system for the cafe. Solar panels will then be used to power lights, internet, fans for the cafe - allowing it to stay open and cool even when electricity goes down.
