For Jamika and Kara, this Mother’s Day is about celebrating their new babies. But it’s also about the hope that their children will grow up free from the cycle of addiction that once held these two women captive. While pregnant, they became friends at Freedom House in Louisville, part of Volunteers of America Mid-States' nationally-recognized treatment model that helps women deliver healthy babies while staying on the path to sobriety. Our Maternal Health Services at Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania is assisting new moms with in-home support, mental health counseling, and access to curated pantries for babies.
