Becky shares how her son Kenzie braved winds and rain to race 1km in IRONKIDS Wales, and raised £190.04 for the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS)! "September was Deaf Awareness Month, and Kenzie wanted to do something a little different this time to raise awareness while also raising money for NDCS, a charity so very close to our hearts and a huge support in our deaf journey. He decided to challenge himself and run 1km in IRONKIDS Wales. This is something that pushed Kenzie out of his comfort zone as it was a busy, crowded and noisy event, which is something Kenzie struggles with. It was also something he needed to run on his own without me by his side. In the build-up the to the event, Kenzie fundraised by sharing videos on his Facebook page and visiting family and friends to raise sponsorships. He also created British Sign Language (BSL) videos and helped others develop their sign language skills. On the day of the event, the weather was horrendous, with heavy rain and winds all day, but he did not let this stop him! We arrived at the event early to cheer on and support the other year groups in their run. Then it was Kenzie's turn. He stood in the large noisy crowds as he prepared for his race. He ran in the heavy rain the whole way, and as he crossed the finish line, he had the biggest smile on his face as he was presented with his medal. I am so incredibly proud of Kenzie and everything he achieves, but this definitely topped them all. Watching him reach that finish line and not letting anything stand in his way melted my heart.
