Misheard lyrics or not - we're always doing just fine when exploring Kinver Edge and the Rock Houses. The earliest record of people living here in homes carved from the soft red sandstone is from 1777 - the houses were described as ‘warm in winter, cool in summer’. Inside space was determined by how much sandstone could be dug out. Rooms could therefore be larger and ceilings higher than in the cottages and back-to-backs of towns. They became a bit of a tourist attraction by the turn of the 20th century and the inhabitants would serve tea from their rock homes to visitors. Photo: NT Kinver Edge and the Rock Houses (fb)
