Insha and her sisters, Faiza and Sabaa, have hosted Coffee Mornings for the last seven years in loving memory of their mother Firdausiah, who had breast cancer. Although Insha’s mum didn’t live in the UK, Insha and her sisters began hosting Coffee Mornings from their home because they wanted to raise vital funds for us, and they admired Macmillan’s work in supporting people living with cancer in the UK. Insha and her sisters are gearing up to host their 8th Coffee Morning this year to help raise awareness of some of the challenges people with cancer face. Insha highlights that her mum was open to talking about her cancer journey, unlike some people in the South Asian community. By continuing to host Coffee Mornings, Insha hopes to honour her mum’s legacy by encouraging others in the community to speak openly about cancer, helping to change the stigma that can sometimes surround the topic.
