Congratulations to Jillian Hartin, lead nurse, on receiving an Honorary Doctor of Science from City St George’s, University of London. Jillian, affectionately known as ‘Titch’ across UCLH, qualified as a registered nurse in 1989, working in elderly care and acute medicine in Belfast before moving to London. After undertaking postgraduate training in intensive care nursing, Jillian moved into critical care outreach, helping set up and support one of the country’s first services here at UCLH. She is currently lead nurse for UCLH’s Patient Emergency Response and Resuscitation Team (PERRT), a nursing team that combines critical care outreach and resuscitation. Jillian received the award of Honorary Doctor of Science for her work in improving patient outcomes through critical care outreach and her contribution to education in the field. UCLH has one of the lowest cardiac arrest rates in the UK, and this has been achieved through the work that Jillian has led. Jillian said, “I am very honoured to receive this award, which has been made possible through the UCLH experience, and the opportunities that arise from working here as a nurse. This includes the support and guidance from many amazing healthcare colleagues in nursing, medicine, allied health and academia”.
