Meet Russell Cresser 👋 – one of our brilliant contributors! You will have met Russell upstairs at Newlyn Art Gallery invigilating our Hew Locke exhibition - Armada. We asked Russell a few questions about his time with us… 🖼️ What inspired you to volunteer with us? “I was inspired to take the volunteering role by my wife. She did not know that I had done a bit of work for Hew when I worked in London and I had met him. I had been thinking I would like to get involved in something artistic since we moved to Penzance.” 👀 What do you like about volunteering at the Gallery? “One of the things I like about the other people at the gallery is the sense of camaraderie, which is one of the things I miss having spent my career in small workshops.” 🙌Any unforgettable moments? “I was privileged to meet Michael Chaikin who is a local artist who makes, amongst other things, beautifully articulated fish in patinated copper. Michael was a contemporary of Hew’s at Falmouth, being a year below. The Creative Quarter exhibition on The Ramp Wall at the Exchange celebrates the talent and community spirit of our Tea, Cake & Art group, a long-running creative health programme supporting older people. There’s a great mix of textiles, prints and paintings to choose from. Your contribution helps ensure this vital community group continues into next year, while also giving real encouragement to a local artist dealing with numerous challenges such as dementia, loneliness, and anxiety.
