VE Day 80 commemorations at West Pang Explorers last night included a reflection on the role of Scouts in WWII, new investitures into the Unit, and an impressive performance from one Explorer on the bagpipes, all culminating in the lighting of a specially made beacon of peace to mark the occasion. As Scouts, we’re commemorating 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe and there have already been activities taking place in and around Berkshire. 1st Ufton Nervet Beavers spent the past week learning about rationing and getting ready for their own street party. They made bunting, ration books and even helped to prepare a special picnic. The 15 Beavers had to queue for their rations and get their books stamped. When asked what ‘traditional’ games they might like to play, tug-of-war, hopscotch, hula hoops and ball games were the chosen activities – with lots of competition between the young people and the adults!
