Did you know there has been over 6000 years of food production at Thanet Earth? Last week, members of the CAT Engagement Team added the finishing touches to a display in the reception area at Thanet Earth, showcasing a range of exciting archaeological finds from our excavations there between 2007 and 2008. The excavations were undertaken prior to the construction of seven industrial scale greenhouses and a packing warehouse. The archaeology yielded the oldest tetraploid free-threshing wheat in Britain, showing what our early ancestors farmed and ate. Other evidence included Bronze-Age barrows, medieval sunken buildings and even features from the Second World War. There were also a considerable number of inhumation and cremation burials from various periods. The replica vessels on display were created by Potted History and we had other replica objects made to showcase the exciting variety of finds from the site. We are always excited to share finds and information with others, and hope the display is enjoyed by both staff and visitors at Thanet Earth!
