On 28th August our Speaker was Richard (Dickie) Dawson, a friend of one of our members and also a retired Officer of the Metrpolitan Police Flying Squaud. Procedures and attitudes were different in the 70`s and 80 `s and it was a time of Crime gang and regular Bank robberies, including the Brinks Matt Gold bullion robbery when £26 million was stolen. His talk was certainly entertaining and a reflection on how the world has changed since then. (fb)

Last Thursday evening (14th Aug) we were lucky enough to have Tom Robertson from the management team of Home Farm Trust charity came & speak at our club meeting. HFT is a national charity supporting adults with learning disabilities. The Cornwall organisation locations are in St Austell, Truro, St Teath, Liskard, Launceston & the resource centre here in Wadebridge, which provide day opportunities for the whole of Cornwall, with some people travelling large distances. Wadebridge has now been open for 30 years, providing day time activities and promoting employment and inclusion, for example with some people having jobs in Costa and The Vine in Wadebridge. The service provision is 95% funded by Adult Social Care, but all the equipment, maintenance etc has to be funded by donations and fund-raising events, which Wadebridge Rotary has been, and remains, very happy to help with.
