We’ve been reflecting on the powerful report by the Scottish Children’s Commissioner, “This is our lives, it matters a lot,” which calls for a reimagined education system — one that places young people’s rights, wellbeing and voices at its core. At Volunteering Matters, this resonates deeply. Our Brighter Futures programme in Edinburgh already puts these principles into action. Through supported volunteering and mentoring, we work alongside care-experienced young people and pupils on flexible timetables to help them build confidence, skills, and connection—always with their voice at the centre.
