Welcome to the Sutton Hoo Society

THE SUTTON HOO SOCIETY, a registered charity, was formed to support the work of the Sutton Hoo Research Project (director Prof. Martin Carver, University of York). Today the Sutton Hoo Society trains the Guides, who offer burial site tours and talks. Involved in education of the public in all matters relating to Anglo-Saxon Suffolk, and in particular the Anglo Saxon Burial site at Sutton Hoo. Provides tour guides to volunteer with the National Trust to show the public around the site. Publishes a twice yearly newsletter for our membership.

Connect with us Cliff Hoppitt Eric Houlder LRPS WELCOME TO THE SUTTON HOO SOCIETY President Dr Angela Care Evans The Society is a registered charity which was founded in 1984 to support and further the work of Professor Martin Carvers ground breaking excavations of the AngloSaxon royal burial site in Suffolk. The Societys focus is to advance knowledge about Sutton Hoo and the wider AngloSaxon kingdom of the East Angles. Our work includes funding academic research and through publication and lectures informing the wider world of that knowledge. We also train guides to provide tours and talks which interpret the history of the burial mounds at Sutton Hoo now in the hands of the National Trust.
