Today is National Children’s Day 2025, our CEO Tricia has written a piece on the importance of Children’s services: Since the mid 1980’s Castlehaven has provided a vast array of inclusive and accessible services for children, young people & families, that have made a huge impact to the local community and the individuals that we have worked with through the years. Many of those now grown up, have popped in to tell us how important our services were for them whilst growing up or when their children were young. How they made life long friends, got great support from youth workers, Under 5’s drop in staff and volunteers. Some were even inspired to head into a career around working within a charity. We have also employed past service users and volunteers too. Which has had a great impact in these people’s lives. I am regularly told at meetings and events how important Castlehaven’s work with Children & Young people is to Camden. We know that this work saves lives, improves physical & mental health and wellbeing of children and young people, it also tackles inequalities head on by improving education, employment and life skills. Many charities like ours that work in this field are having to make tough choices due to a decline in funding streams for general youth work, support from councils and statutory organisations due to lack of government funding or investment. Having to constantly fundraise to keep these vital services going, having to redesign well run and loved projects so they match funders requirements, which is a current concern for our afterschool services.
