Todmorden Group Practice is offering drop-in smear tests! 📆 Tuesday 9th September ⏰15:30-19:30 📌 Todmorden Health Centre Smear tests are one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer. Cervical screening is not a test for cancer, it's a test to help prevent cancer. It checks a sample of cells from your cervix for high risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV). If abnormal cells are found, they can be treated to help prevent cervical cancer. This Sunday at 3pm, the UK Government will be testing its emergency alert system. Your mobile phone or tablet will vibrate and make a loud sound like a siren, even if it’s set on silent. You will get a message letting you know it is a test. Regular tests like this mean that they can check the alerts are working, should they be needed in an actual life-threatening emergency (such as wildfires, severe flooding, or extreme storms). • Only the government and the emergency services are able to send them. • The alerts are sent via a broadcast from mobile phone masts. • Your phone number is not needed or used. • No data about you, your device or location will be collected or shared. Survivors of abuse with hidden phones could be put at risk if the device is discovered.
