Friends' talk review: There was a good turnout of members and guests on the evening of Tuesday 23rd May to hear Michael Morris, the Right Honourable Lord Naseby P.C. talk about his fascinating new book: ‘The Few who Flew’. Michael Morris, who is a long-standing member of the Friends, was one of the last young men to be called up for National Service in the UK. He served in the Royal Air Force and learned to fly jets, gaining his ‘wings’ just before National Service came to an end. His account of those times, many decades ago, was presented in his own inimitable style and was greatly appreciated by the audience. Lord Naseby concluded his presentation with a discussion of the key role of what at the time was the secret Second World War airfield at Tempsford – an airfield that was the point of departure for many operatives who were sent under cover behind enemy lines. There was unanimous agreement that the evening was an excellent end to the 2022/23 season of Friends’ lectures. We are back again on Tuesday 5th September with Professor David Ekserdjian on the Altarpiece in Renaissance Art. (fb)
