Over Easter National Youth Ballet partnered with Future Youth Zone in Dagenham to deliver two days of creative ballet workshops. It was great to take ballet into a completely new setting working with fantastic young people, most of whom had never done ballet before and many of whom had a real passion for dance. We worked with 20 young dancers over 2 days, many of whom had never taken part in ballet before. The young people worked with dance artists Hannah George and Gerrard Martin and musician Devid Dell’Aiera. They took part in a Moving Minds and ballet class each day and then had the chance to explore their ideas creatively with Gerrard, their creations were supported musically by Devid, who collaborated with them to create a bespoke score for each group. We hope to return to the Future Youth Zone and offer our work to the wider national network of Onside Youth Zones in the futurBarking and Dagenham Council their young people as ‘FJack Petchey Foundationn’s first OnSide Youth Zone thanks to the support of project partners Barking and Dagenham Council, The Queen’s Trust and Jack Petchey Foundation.
