As the Fall semester starts on Monday, Aug. 25, Florida State University will welcome another talented class of freshmen to campus! ☀️🌴⛲ FSU offers a variety of pathways for first-year students. Roughly 800 students will start their FSU experience at Tallahassee State College through FSU Next, and nearly 315 students will start their FSU experience abroad at one of FSU International Programs four study centers. Hundreds gathered in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall on Tuesday to celebrate the life of Florida State University President Emeritus John Thrasher. His career stretched across law, politics and higher education. He was unanimously elected Speaker of the Florida House in 1998, played a pivotal role in creating the FSU College of Medicine and in 2001 became the university’s first Board of Trustees chair. In 2014, he reached what he called his “dream job” when he was named president of FSU. His seven-year presidency was marked by momentum. Under his leadership, the university climbed in national rankings, completed its largest fundraising campaign and set records for graduation and retention rates. (fb)
