Last week, the College came alive with colour, music, and flavour as we celebrated European Day of Languages. Students had the opportunity to sample a delicious variety of foods, including chorizo, Jamón Serrano, tortilla, Spanish cheeses, and sweet treats from Italy. A selection of biscuits added to the spread, and a special highlight was a Sri Lankan coconut pancake prepared by teacher Narada. Euro pop music set the tone and the celebration reached a lively peak when teacher Claire led everyone in a performance of the Macarena, bringing students and staff together in dance and laughter. This weekend, RNC’s very own Nigel O'Neil will be lacing up his running shoes for the Cardiff Half Marathon. Nigel is a seasoned runner with half marathons in Worcester, Reading, Bristol, Cardiff and Newport under his belt, as well as the London Marathon in 2019 and a solo Hereford marathon during the pandemic. He returns to running after a recent injury. It was touch and go, but he’s now fit and ready to make the start line. Running not only keeps Nigel fit, but this time it’s also about raising awareness and funds for the work done by The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC). Nigel leads a weekly running club for RNC students at Hereford Leisure Centre and previously supported former student Freya Gavin in her training for the Manchester Marathon. He’s hoping to rejoin his running club, the Hereford Couriers Running Club, soon and get back into running regularly.
