One of the most dangerous malaria-carrying mosquitoes is rapidly evolving in response to control efforts, new genetic research has revealed. 🦟 By sequencing the genomes of hundreds of modern and historic mosquitoes across 16 African countries, scientists uncovered high genetic diversity, early signs of insecticide resistance, and population differences that pose new challenges for malaria control. Training the next generation of scientific leaders in genomics and biodata is at the core of our mission at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. 🚀 Every year, we host an EMBO Lab Leadership Course for Postdocs to gain the skills, confidence and space needed to grow as future leaders. To date, over one hundred of Sanger’s Early Career Researchers have participated in the course. As well as providing practical tools to bring out their leadership potential, the course brings a cohort together in a new peer support network, which helps them to road-test and refine their natural leadership style long after the course has ended.
