10th Worcester Scout Group

The 10th Worcester Scout Group, registered as a charity under the number 1041215, is a prominent nonprofit organization located in the Crown East area of Worcester, UK. The group has its origins dating back to when it was first registered with the Scout Association as the 1st Crown East (St Thomas') on 5 September 1944[1].

Overview

The group provides scouting activities for young people aged 6 to 14, offering a comprehensive program through its Beaver Colony, Cub Pack, and Scout Troop. These sections cater to children from the areas of Crown East, Rushwick, Cotheridge, Lower and Upper Broadheath, Knightwick, Martley, and St John's[2].

Activities

The organization focuses on delivering a wide range of exciting and educational experiences beyond traditional scouting skills like knots and map reading. Activities include camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling, and canoeing, as well as team-building exercises and games[3]. The group also offers opportunities for skill development in areas such as fire lighting and outdoor survival techniques like tomahawk throwing, ensuring a balance of adventure and safety[2].

Sections

  • Beavers: For children aged 6 to 8 years, typically meeting on Wednesday evenings[4].
  • Cubs: Catering to children aged 8 to 10½ years, with sessions on Monday nights[4].
  • Scouts: Targeting youth aged 10½ to 14 years, meetings are held on Friday evenings[4].
  • Explorers: For young people aged 14 to 18 years, this section is part of a separate unit called the 10th Worcester Explorer Unit, with meetings on Wednesdays[5].

Leadership and Community Involvement

Leadership roles within the group are often taken by parents or volunteers who initially join to support their children but continue due to the rewarding nature of the experience. The organization emphasizes that involvement is open to anyone, regardless of full-time employment or family commitments, with no cost other than time and no requirement for uniforms[2].
